New Grant Program for Nurse Educators
A new grant program will provide up to $125,000 annually to nurse educators who are pursuing a graduate-level degree. The Nurse Educator Grant Program addresses a growing need for qualified educators to train nurses.

About the Grant

Iowa Student Loan®, the Iowa Nursing Association and Iowa Needs Nurses Now have teamed up to provide the Iowa Student Loan Nurse Educator Grant. Thee grant helps nursing students who are enrolled in graduate-level nursing programs while teaching classroom or clinical classes at an eligible Iowa college or university. It is intended to help offset education costs for nurse educators who provide important services in Iowa. Each grant recipient will receive up to $2,000 each academic term for a total of up to $4,000 in one academic year.

Filling a Fundamental Need
"While an overall shortage of nurses continues to be a serious issue here in Iowa, the more fundamental problem is a scarcity of the educators needed to train the next generation of nurses," said Virginia Wangerin, president of the Iowa Nurses Association. Wangerin added that some nursing schools have waiting lists because they don’t have enough trained educators. Steve McCullough, chief executive officer at Iowa Student Loan, said the grant will provide valuable support for those who choose to go back to school to help fill this gap.

More Information Coming Soon
Online information, grant applications and grant guidelines will be live Dec. 1, 2010. In the meantime, questions can be directed to Matt Brown at Iowa Student Loan by e-mail or at (800) 243-7552, ext. 7656.
